Retinal Imaging with a state of the art Optomap®

As part of our comprehensive eye exams and screening, we also offer retinal imaging with a state of the art optomap. ® This cutting edge technology can better evaluate your eye health and detect diseases and conditions before they advance, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration and retinal detachments. This allows us to detect health issues that would previously have gone undetected until they were at a more advanced stage. Diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure have classic symptoms when looking at a detailed ultra wide high definition image of your eye and can often be identified through this type of imaging.

How does retinal imaging work?

Retinal imaging equipment captures a digital photograph of the back wall of the eye encompassing the retina as well as the blood vessels and the optic nerve for a thorough assessment of eye health. It is quick, painless, and accurate.

An Optomap® Retinal Exam offers:
  • An ultra wide image of your retina displaying around 80% of your retina
  • High definition imaging with a scanning laser and software
  • The ability to detect many dangerous diseases such as: retinal tears, detached retinas,
glaucoma, diabetes, diabetes, hypertension/high blood pressure, tumours, macular degeneration.
  • Accuracy
What can I expect from the procedure?

For your exam with the optomap® you simply look into the device one eye at a time and you will see a comfortable flash of light to let you know the image of your retina has been taken. It is painless and suitable for all ages as the actual picture takes less than a second!

by having a scan on file, each time you take a new image we are able to see if there are any changes within your eyes and monitor any ongoing conditions you may have giving us the best possible insight to your ocular and overall health and how to manage it.

Detects disease

The optomap® can detect: Macular Degeneration, Glaucoma, Retinal Tears/Detachment, Diabetes, High Blood Pressure/Tumours/Cancer

the optomap® image is shown immediately on a computer screen so we can review it with you.

Safe

this equipment operates like a camera, not an x-ray meaning it does no harm whatsoever to your eyesight or your health.

Preventative care

these progressive screenings surpass conventional eye care. Sometimes there isn’t any discomfort or symptoms associated with certain ocular conditions and it is possible to have a condition that remains undiagnosed until extensive damage has already been done. Retinal imaging can catch ocular or medical conditions early on enabling early treatment, optimizing recovery, minimizing damage to vision and reducing the chance of requiring invasive procedures further down the line.

Protect your sight and your health with the most advanced screening possible.
